Prep & Grout
(1) Sand wood and seal with Matte Sealer. Let dry. Sand with fine sandpaper.
(2) Paint clock frame (including back) using Licorice paint, dry and apply varnish. Let dry.
(3) Apply Faux Mosaic Grout to clock face. Use a bouncing motion for added texture. Clean brush with water before grout dries. Let grout dry.
Creating the Faux Tile
(4) Cut paper into uneven shapes of a similar size to replicate mosaic tiles or pieces of broken china. The sizes of your paper tiles depend upon the area you are covering. Use preprinted or hand decorated paper, copies of photos, die cuts, scrapbook paper, etc. It is easiest to work with heavier weight papers, i.e. cardstock.
Tile Placement
(5) Lay out the mosaic pattern first, then glue it down. Once the grout has dried start placement. Use a thin coat of Faux Mosaic Glue on both the grouted surface and the back of each paper tile. Place the ‘faux tiles’ down and smooth with the brush. Use the glue on top and under the tiles and decoupage the paper to the surface. Allow time to dry well.
Glaze
(6) Glaze paper tiles with Faux Mosaic Glaze. Keep the glaze on the paper only. Start by outlining the "tiles" then filling in the centers. Prevent bubbles by keeping the applicator tip down on the ‘paper tiles’ and by not shaking the bottle. Apply several (2-3) layers for the most dimensional, realistic effect. Let the Faux Glaze dry completely between coats. The Glaze will appear milky until it dries. It will dry to a clear, shiny finish in 20 minutes to several hours depending on humidity.
