(1) Sand
the entire surface of the cigar tin and wipe away
residue with a damp cloth.
(2) Dab
on Espresso, Sandal and Lake Mist paints to base
coat all surfaces of the tin, inside and out. Let dry.
(3) Apply Faux Mosaic
Grout to the top of the tin lid using a foam
paintbrush. Paint with small strokes and
flip the brush back and forth as you add the
grout. Use a pouncing motion for added
texture before the grout dries. Clean brush
with water before grout dries. Let the grout
dry completely.
(4) Dab on Sandal, Lake
Mist and Juniper paints randomly across the
surface of the dried grout.
(5) Use a Mini
Mister filled with water to spritz the painted
surface and use a square of Cut n’ Dry
Foam to blend the paints together across the
entire surface of the lid. Set aside to
dry.
(6) Select
your themed beach phrase stickers to be used as
the “faux tiles”.
(7) Lay out your
stickers on the dried textured surface first to determine
placement, and then glue them down. Leave a
two and one half inch by three and one quarter inch
space in the center of the lid to add a wallet-sized
photo later on. Leave some spaces in select
spots to add some small seashells later on as well. When
you are pleased with the sticker placement, use a
thin coat of Faux Mosaic Glue on both the grouted
surface and on the back of each sticker. Place each “faux
tile” down and smooth with the brush. Work small
sections at a time so that the glue does not set faster
than the tiles are applied. Be sure the glue
is on top and under the tiles and decoupage the stickers
to the surface. Apply a light coat of the glue
over the entire surface to bond the images. Allow
time to dry well to a matte finish.
(8) Apply
the Glaze to all of the sticker phrases. Outline
each piece before filling in the center. Pop
any air bubbles immediately with a pin. Allow
to dry to a clear and shiny finish.
(9) Apply
additional coats of Glaze as desired to add additional
dimension. Be sure to
allow each coat to dry thoroughly before adding
the next coat of glaze.
(10) When
the glaze is dry add photo to the center of the
lid then add a circular word sticker in one corner
with foam tape and glaze the sticker.
(11) Fill
in open areas with small seashells, attaching
them using the glaze as an adhesive. Leave
the tin to dry completely.
(12) On
the inside of the lid, use foam stamps to stamp
the word “Beach” using Sandal, Lake
Mist and Espresso Paint Dabbers.
(13) Cut
a four and one quarter inch by four and three
quarter inch rectangle of patterned paper. Round
the edges and use a square of Cut n’ Dry
foam to ink the edges with Brushed Corduroy Distress
Ink. Use the Faux Mosaic Glue to decoupage
the paper into the bottom of the tin. Let
dry.
(14) Use
a square of Cut n’ Dry Foam to ink
the edges of several photos cropped to three
and one half inch by four and one half inch using
Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink. Add a themed
beach sticker to each photo.
(15) Cut
a strip of patterned paper seven and one half
inch by three quarter inch. Cut a strip of brown
cardstock seven and one half inch by one inch;
ink the edges of the strips with Brushed Corduroy
and Cut n’ Dry Foam. Layer
the patterned paper centered over the cardstock
and adhere. Fold the strip around the stack
of photos and adhere the ends to make a simple
band. Tie bits of jute around the band.
(16) Use
Cut n’ Dry Foam to ink the edges of
a small shipping tag with Brushed Corduroy ink. Swipe
the tag with the Sandal and Lake Mist Paint Dabbers. Let
dry and add a Summer sticker. Tie the tag
onto the photo band with jute. Add the
banded photos to the tin to complete the project.
